Free School Meals
I am writing to update you on our Free School Meals provision during the current closure of the Academy and what should happen on a weekly basis, in term time, during these unprecedented circumstances.
When the Government announced the closure of schools, we had very limited time to respond and ensure continuation of Free School Meals. Across the Academy Trust we purchased Aldi vouchers to the value of £25 per child, which covered two weeks of meals for the fortnight that we should have been in school, up to Easter. These were distributed accordingly.
Subsequently, the national voucher scheme was then announced by the Government, and the details were given to schools, with a view to starting after the Easter holidays on April 20th. The Government scheme is a £15 e-code, which will be sent to you each week and can be used in one of six supermarkets: Asda, Sainsburys, M&S, Morrisons, Waitrose and Tesco. We have ensured we have a 100% electronic method of delivery for all parents and carers. This enables us to administer the vouchers outside of the Academy if, for example, the site had to be shut down completely.
On Saturday 4th April, Michael Gove announced that Free School Meals children would also be given funding during the Easter holidays. On Tuesday, we received further guidance on how the Government will fund this, although they have stated that this is a one-off payment and will not be given during future holidays.
Following this guidance, we have set up the payments for the Easter holidays with the company Edenred. The website link is https://www.edenred.co.uk/reward-recipients/Free-School-Meal-Vouchers/
Like Netflix, Firefly and Disney+ these services are receiving large amounts of traffic and appear to be experiencing some delays. Although the first codes should have already been sent to you, they are still showing as pending on the system, so please be patient as I am sure they will arrive soon. Some schools ordered codes last week and they still haven’t been fulfilled.
