    Independent Study

Independent study is an essential part of Sixth Form life and helps students prepare for higher education, employment and the expectations of adult life, where a 40-hour working week is commonplace.

In Year 12, students are expected to complete approximately one hour of independent study for every hour spent in lessons. In Year 13, this increases to around one and a half hours. Independent study may include homework set by teachers, wider reading, consolidating classwork, completing additional practice, or revising independently.

Our Study Skills Programme equips students with the knowledge, strategies and confidence to become effective independent learners. It encourages them to develop a personal vision for success, establish productive routines and study practices, reflect on their effort and attitude, and respond positively to challenges and setbacks. These skills support students throughout Sixth Form and prepare them for future study and employment.
