Year 7 Transition Residential.
On Monday 3rd October 214 students from year 7 and 18 members of staff set off for Whitemoor Lakes where they participated in activities such as Canoeing, raft and buggy building, High ropes, climbing, abseiling, zipwire, campfires and a disco (to name just a few activities). The students were fantastic and really got stuck into the activities, building their character and resilience. There were a few life skills learnt along the way like being considerate of each other, encouraging each other, celebrating in courage and bravery. Also, practical things such as tidying rooms, putting on/taking off bedding and tidying up after meals in the canteen. Hopefully, parents will see a more independent son/daughter with a few more strings to their bows and that they had some fun to boot! They were a real credit to the Academy and staff loved splashing with them and being splashed in the water when canoeing!
When asked at the end of the three days by Mrs Grimwood whether they had made a new friend or learnt a new skill every child put their hand up which is excellent to hear and one of the reasons why we run this transition residential. Hopefully, lots of new memories made for everyone.
