Course Summary

This is a vocational course that will provide students with a mix of exam based learning and hands on experience through course work within the world of sport. Over the two years students will gain the knowledge and skills within five different areas: Body Systems and the Effects of Physical Exercise, Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership, Sports Organisation and Development, Biomechanics and Movement Analysis and Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation.

What does CTEC Sport and Physical Activity consist of?

Students will have two specialist teachers to ensure high quality learning throughout. Assessments take place at various stages throughout the two years. The first assessment, Sports Coaching and Leadership, is coursework based and will be completed by Easter in the first year. The second assessment, Body systems and the Effects of Physical Exercise, is a 90 minute exam taken in May of the first year. The final year consists of two pieces of coursework and one exam: Biomechanics which will be completed by February half term and Sports Injuries which will be completed by May half term. The exam, Sports Organisation will be taken in the January.  Students will therefore have an overview of their progress towards their final grade as the two years progress. This qualification is measured in Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*.

Is this course for me?

If you have a keen interest in sport but are perhaps not a sports performer or you prefer the ongoing methods of assessment, then the vocational qualification is for you. It will equip you with the skills to actively seek employment or to move on to further education.

What can I do after this course?

A CTEC in Sport and Physical Activity will open you up to a wide variety of career pathways, such as Sports Coach, Sports Nutritionist, Personal Trainer, Sports Commentator, Sports Psychologist, Sports Development Officer or a Teacher of Physical Education to name but a few.
